Queen Victoria is like a big family. The love and support are evident the second you walk through the door. I have seen many changes at QVC, and am proud to have grown with the facility, and be supported to continue to learn and better myself.
I commenced at QVC as a trainee carer in January 2006. Working my way up to being an Enrolled nurse, before completing my Bachelor of Nursing in 2016. I always intended to specialise in Diabetes as the disease fascinated me. Working as a Registered Nurse, I found a new love in wounds and went on to complete Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours – Clinical Nursing and Teaching, with wounds being my major.
Covid took over the world in 2020, with Aged Care Facilities constantly on alert. 2021 seen me complete Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control (FIPC) course and become the IPC Lead for QVC. My most recent achievement was to be lucky enough to complete my TAE in 2022.
We are in exciting times at QVC, with New Management Team taking us on a journey of excellence.
I love the friendly atmosphere at Queen Victoria Care. All residents and staff feel at home, and it is such a welcoming environment. There is such a rich history here that we are all a part of. I am very passionate about working in the aged care industry for the past 25 years, and Queen Victoria Care only helps grow that passion further.
I am proud to have been part of the Aged Care industry since 1998 and have accumulated a wealth of knowledge over this time and as an operational manager in hotel services. My background is that of a chef and I am accustomed to working with both large organizations and smaller ones. I have always had a passion for food and the environment that the ones in my care reside. I love working as part of a committed team to provide quality service and care and to promote Queen Victoria Care at every opportunity.
I get to work with a team of dedicated professionals who want to enrich the lives of the vulnerable within our community and incorporate the best high-quality care and services that each person deserves. I value QVCare is very inclusive and has a supportive nature and structure and is not afraid to embrace change and considers each change as an opportunity to be creative and atypical to the norm. I am privileged that QVCare has accepted me into the family and has given me an incredible opportunity to increase my knowledge and widen my skillset to be able to continue to achieve my professional career path goals and share those aspirations with QVCare family.
I was born in Tasmania and grew up in Hobart. I am married with two children (daughter and son). I have four grandchildren. From a young age I have always had a passion to support and advocate those in the community that are vulnerable and are not confident to speak up for themselves. I love socialising with family and friends and experiencing the taste of all different favours of food. I love the nature and like going hiking when I can. I also love travelling and I have been fortunate to be able to travel across several countries and continents. Mostly Australasia and Asian. I love music (all sought) and gardening. One of my hobbies is showing my indoor and outdoor plants at garden/flower shows.
Most of my career has been within the Health Sector. With Aged Care being the predominate industry. I started in Aged Care in the early 1990’s. My first role was in the catering services then I expanded my career path to an Extended Care Assistance. In the early 2000’s I was seconded to work at the Health and Community Service Union for a 3-month period. Within that time, I applied for a vacant position as an industrial organiser and was successful in the appointment. Within my role, I advocated and represented union members. Also, during my appointment as an industrial organiser, I had an opportunity to further my career by undertaking additional education in a train the trainer course and completed several other courses including a diploma in Leadership and Management. In mid-2016, I decided I needed a change from Industrial Relations and returned into Aged Care with a goal to do more proactive work.
Entering back into Aged Care, I commenced my position as a Training and Continuous Improvement Officer. Over a course of 7 years, I increased my skills and knowledge to become a Quality and Compliance Officer, then the Quality and Compliance Manager. Over the past two years, I have been working towards achieving my career further by re-enrolling in another diploma based on Governance, Quality, Compliance and Risk which I have almost achieved completions.
