Covid Updates

Facility Update 15th February 2022

Wendy Chamberlain

I regret to inform you unfortunately there have been 3 staff members test positive to COVID-19 over the past 72 hours at Queen Victoria Care where your family member resides.

As indicated by text message sent yesterday, this constitutes a Facility lockdown as per Public Health directives.

At this stage, I can advise that no residents are displaying symptoms of COVID and all preliminary testing utilising Rapid Antigen Tests of residents and staff has produced a negative result.

Today we attended a meeting held with Public Health, Commonwealth, Aged Care Quality Commission and Aged Care Emergency Operation Centre. During this meeting the details around the current lockdown were shared and our processes evaluated with no issues of concern noted.

At this meeting we were advised that Pathology will be on site tomorrow morning to conduct routine PCR testing of all residents.

These results will take approximately 24 hours to return and we will advise you of these results shortly after being received.

Increased resident monitoring for signs and symptoms of COVID is occurring and we will let you know if we have any concerns.

We have commenced testing of all staff prior to the commencement of shift utilising Rapid Antigen Tests. All staff have been advised not to attend the Facility if feeling unwell.

I understand this situation is a very upsetting and distressing time for you and your family and loved ones.

However, I want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our residents. We have rostered Leisure and Lifestyle staff to each wing of the Facility who will provide exercise, social support and facilitate alternative methods of keeping in touch with your loved one.

Please contact reception on 62433100 if you would like to schedule a call via phone or zoom (or similar).

Our aim is to minimise the spread of infection and contain and control the outbreak as quickly and safely as possible.

For this reason visitation restrictions will need to be in place until further notice. It is our aim to be guided by public health in regards to restricted visiting and will be able to update you as we move through this initial stage of the outbreak.

Exemptions for essential visits will be considered by the COVID Management Team. Please call reception on 62433100 or email the email address to apply for an exemption.

Our Outbreak Management plan has been activated, and additional precautions in Infection Prevention and Control and PPE wearing are taking place.

I would like to assure you that we will continue to meet our responsibilities and deliver safe, quality care and services to all residents.

We will keep our lines of communication open to ensure you are kept informed and updated.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation and support through this difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Wendy Chamberlain
