Facility Update 21st March 2022

Covid Outbreak - 2 residents have tested positive to COVID-19 over the weekend at Queen Victoria Care.

Dear Residents, Representatives and Independent Living Unit Residents

I regret to inform you that unfortunately there have been 2 residents who have tested positive to COVID-19 over the weekend at Queen Victoria Care.

Our Outbreak Management plan has been activated, and additional precautions in Infection Prevention and Control and PPE wearing are taking place. Our aim is to minimise the spread of infection and contain and control the outbreak as quickly and safely as possible.

As indicated in the text message sent out yesterday, the area where these residents reside has been placed into lock-down. All NOK of residents in this area have been notified.

At this stage all preliminary testing utilising Rapid Antigen Tests of residents and staff has produced a negative result.

This afternoon, sonic attended the facility and conducted PCR testing on all residents residing in the affected area of the Facility. These results will take approximately 24 hours to return and we will advise the appropriate Representatives of these results shortly after being received.

We have made the decision to lockdown and restrict visits to this portion of the facility only at this stage.

Visits to all other areas of the facility will continue as normal. As an extra precaution, we would suggest that you wear protective eyewear (provided at the entrance) as well as the N95 mask.

If your loved one resides in the affected area and you feel that you qualify for an exemption to visit, please contact the COVID management team via covid@qvcare,com,au or via reception on 62433100.

If you would like to schedule a call via phone or zoom, this can be scheduled via reception as well.

Today we attended a meeting held with Public Health, Commonwealth, Aged Care Quality Commission and Aged Care Emergency Operation Centre. During this meeting the details around the current lock-down were shared and our processes evaluated with no issues of concern noted.

Increased resident monitoring for signs and symptoms of COVID is occurring and we will let you know if we have any concerns.

We have commenced regular testing of all staff utilising Rapid Antigen Tests. All staff have been advised not to attend the Facility if feeling unwell.

I understand this situation is a very upsetting and distressing time for you and your family and loved ones.

However, I want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our residents to minimise any disruption and maintain their quality of life.

We have rostered Leisure and Lifestyle staff to the affected wings who will be able to provide exercise, social support and facilitate alternative methods of keeping in touch with your loved one.

I would like to assure you that we will continue to meet our responsibilities and deliver safe, quality care and services to all residents.

We will keep our lines of communication open to ensure you are kept informed and updated.
